Hunting Rifles & Ammunition

Hunting guests are advised to bring their own weapon and ammunition to Namibia. Rifle imports/exports are easy to arrange.

Hunting rifles with a minimum calibre of 30.06 up to 375 H&H, fitted with a 6x magnification, are required for Namibian plains game species.

For more info, please see Firearm Selection/Import

The maximum amount of ammunition permitted for import is 100 rounds.

Usually 40-60 rounds will be sufficient.

We recommend the use of grain bullets with not less than 250 grain for the biggest calibre. Well-proven bullets are: barnetsriphs bordered, a-frame, bear claw.

By prior arrangement, weapons on loan can be provided, and ammunition may be purchased from specialised dealers in Windhoek. Please contact us for a quotation.

Hunting Success Rates

Boet Nel Safaris take pride in the fact that our success rate on kudu, gemsbok, hartebeest, springbok, steenbok, eland, Damara dik-dik, warthog, Hartmann zebra, and klipspringer is 100%.

On leopard, only a 60% success rate is experienced because of the special alertness of this beautiful cat. In order to ensure a client's chance at a leopard, baiting starts at least 2 weeks prior to the hunter's arrival in Namibia. Leopard hunting takes place from a blind that overlooks the bait.

Please note: Namibian law permits leopard hunting only in the darkness, i.e. at night by moonlight, and no artificial lights may be used.

How We Hunt in Namibia

Your host, Boet Nel, is a government-licensed Professional Hunter with more than 20 years of experiences in the field. He personally handles only 2 guest hunters per hunt - for larger hunting parties, additional local professional hunters are contracted as required.

Fully equipped hunting vehicles are used to move around hunting areas. Guests who prefer to do so may take their trophies from these vehicle, alternatively from hides.

However, most guests prefer traditional hunting methods, and stalking on foot is therefore how we mostly conduct our hunting activities.

Hunting camps provide basic comforts and fit in with the special atmosphere of the African wilderness as well as the camaraderie amongst hunters.

Travel to / from Namibia

Due to particularly complicated procedures for taking firearms in transit through South Africa, we strongly advise our hunting guests to utilise Air Namibia's direct flights from Europe to Windhoek only!

Air Namibia services Frankfurt/Germany almost daily, and London Gatwick/United Kingdom at least twice per week.

Both these major European hubs are well connected to larger airports in the United States of America and cities worldwide.

Please consult www.airnamibia.com for time-tables only!
