Namibian Hunting Regulations In Brief


Trophy Hunting Season

The annual trophy hunting season in Namibia opens on 1 February and closes on 30 November.


Locations & Timings

Trophy hunting may take place only on properties where permission has been granted by the landowners.

Trophy hunting is restricted to the following timing:
from half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset.

- Hunting professionals have to comply with all hunting regulations as determined by the Ministry of Environment & Tourism (MET).

- Hunting professionals are classified as follows:


PROFESSIONAL HUNTERS

The highest possible qualification, includes the license to hunt on farmlands & in concessions anywhere in Namibia, if permissions where granted by landowners.
Boet Nel carries such a "Professional Hunter" license.

There are also two specialist qualifications:

BIG GAME PROFESSIONAL HUNTERS

- registered Namibian hunting professional who passed the Big Game Examination.


BOW HUNTING PROFESSIONAL HUNTERS

- registered Namibian hunting professional with an additional bow-hunting qualification.


Exclusions

Dogs are not permitted on cheetah hunts.


Permits & Registrations
- All trophy hunting operators have to be registered with the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), the Namibian tourism authority governed by the MET.

- Various permits for trophy hunting are required.

 Permits are subject to the following conditions:


a. Permits may be issued by the MET only.

b. Permits have to be issued prior to the hunting season

c. A separate permit has to be issued for each hunter client.

d. An additional permit, containing a list of special conditions,

     is required for large cats, i.e. leopard, lion, and cheetah.

e. A permit has to be completed in full by the hunting client

    and the Namibian hunting professional (wounded and lost

    animals are to be stipulated on the permit too).

f. A maximum of two trophies per species may be harvested,

    per hunting client/per permit
