Light, cotton clothing in olive green or sand colors is recommended for hunting. Well-fitting boots, warm pajamas and sweater/parkas for cool nights and mornings.
Check Lists
Pre-Travel
- Schedule with doctor before the trip for immunizations and check up.
- Update personal identification so that it is current, with photograph
- Check to see that Passport is current 6 months past the date of your return. (Namibian Visa and rifle permit is obtained at the border)
- Apply for passport if you don’t have one. (done at designated post offices)
- Pick up cash and travelers checks.
- Pick up a telephone calling card to take with you.
- Pay the rent, mortgage, credit card and other bills.
- Break in new boots to prevent blisters
- Sight in your rifle.
- Take your rifle to the customs office at an international airport and get ownership documents so that you can bring it back without problems.
- Print names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of people you may need to contact.
- Water household plants, arrange for someone to care for them
- Unplug any appliances sensitive to power surges (computers, TV, microwave, VHS)
- Unplug fire risk appliances (toasters, space heaters, iron)
- Adjust thermostat
- Stop home delivery services (paper, milk, etc.)
- Arrange for pet care.
- Empty the trash
- Clean the refrigerator of items that will spoil
- Empty waste baskets
- Run garbage disposal to eliminate odors from left over food
- Wash the dishes (or you will be sorry!)
- Lock windows and doors
- Tell the neighbors how to reach you in emergency
- Turn on phone answering machine
- Set lights, blinds and curtains
